July 2018 has been a month of illness. I posted on 8th July that I was sick. What I didn't post after that was, I was sick for another 2 weeks towards the end of July. And, being sick means I have to stay home most of the weekends. What better excuse than for me to buy a new toy to motivate me staying at home. I have been watching this Youtuber 'Ryu's Game channel' and hugely poisoned by him. Happy to say, I'm a happy Nintendo Switch player now.
Pikachu, I choose u!
I have been following a Youtuber 'Ryuuu TV' recently and hugely influenced by him into playing the game, Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. I have been glued to the game ever since (For the past 1 week). I first played this game probably about 20 years ago, when I was still in high school. Back then, I was playing on physical cards and I believe I still have the 1st generation of cards somewhere in my house. Problem with play physical cards is, it was difficult to find friends to play with. With the online version, problem solved as you can be randomly assigned to play with people from all over the world, all at the comfort of playing at home.
Recovering from Sickness = new food blog?
I want to talk abit about waiting. I usually do not deter joining or being part of a group. Be it going out with a group of friends, joining colleagues for lunch, going out with my in-laws, etc. In fact, I love being in a group. My biggest issue is to wait. Waiting is a sheer waste of time caused by someone at the expense of the others. Waiting for a short period of time, 5-15 mins, is fine. But there have been many occasions when I was made to wait for more than 1 hour. The past weekend being one of those occasions. And this really drives me nuts! ヾ(`д´*)ノ
Being sick on both the past Thursday and Friday, I am finally feeling much better on Saturday. On top of clearing some work this weekend, I decided to put up a new food blog after more than 6 months. Writing a blog, I am able to journal the bits and pieces of my life, but it takes a long time for me to write. Mainly caused by me not being good at this. Can only hope I get better and be more efficient at this.
Sick day
This is my 3rd year working in the company, and from what I remembered, today is probably the 1st time I'm taking sick leave. Having such a busy schedule at work, I really need to make use of today to rest more, drink lots of water and taking my medication to recover asap.
World cup 2018 has just ended the quarter final. I have not decide to support any specific team so far, but when I am able to, I will try to watch the match. And when I do watch, I will try to place a small bet (S$10-S$20), just to make the game alittle more exciting to watch. During the last few games, my luck has been pretty good. Among the 7 games I've watched so far, my net winning estimated to about S$66. lol.
Just booked the tickets for an overseas holiday later this year. This is going to be one of the longest and most expensive holiday I had so far...
Appreciation from customer
When a customer who came back from holiday bought a souvenir specially for you only, it's probably safe to say you have done something right and the customer appreciates it.
Visit from Nephews
It's been awhile since we last do this, especially after my nephews started attending school. Over the past weekend, 2 of my nephews came over for a 3D2N staycation. They are really adorable and they brought so much fun and laughter to the home. Can't wait for them to come again.
New car, but it’s not mine...
Accompanied my dad to purchase a new car today. I believe this will be my dad’s 4th car. All his previous cars are from japan makers and had served him very well. This is one of the few times when the whole family is activated in today’s car hunting activity. Even after trading in his current car, the price is still unbelievably high... Don’t think I can afford one in the near future.
World cup 2018
I'm totally a basketball fan but never really been big in soccer, both playing and watching soccer matches. But the World Cup fever is really strong everywhere. And me, of course I would like to get into the action. Betting abit of $ makes watching the match so much more exciting. First match watched tonight, first match I placed my bets, and unfortunately, first match I lost...
Happy birthday to me, and mum!
Today is the day of the year, when me and my mum blows the candle off the cake together, as we both celebrate our birthday on the same day. Tomorrow, I'll be taking 2 days off from work for a short getaway.
Lights, Camera, Action!
"Sometimes things that hurt you most, teach you the greatest lessons of life."
My first experience of getting filmed for work. One of the projects which I did was picked to be filmed. Lots of NGs, lots of laughter. A very good experience and a great honor.
Happy birthday Dad!
A belated post (dated 21st May). As we continue into the marathon celebrations, starting with my dad's birthday. Following closely with Father's day, sis-in-law's birthday, my mum's and my birthday. The new addition of my (really adorable) niece this year makes the photo so much better.
Mayday! Mayday!
"Good artists copy; great artists steal." - Steve Jobs
Fantastic weekend as I went for Mayday's concert in Singapore. Hearing all their songs, it made me fell in love all over again. This year is their 21st year since they released their 1st album. Their songs has accompanied me though so many years of my life.
Always take the high road
"If a person wrongs you, no need to go and seek revenge or let it worry you. "Take the high road" and let them take the low road. "
There are always highs and lows in life. The same goes for work life. In my line of work, it is not uncommon to be on the receiving end of unfair requests or demands from customers. On rare occasions, there would even be verbally abusive customers. It will always be a learning experience dealing with them. At the same time, a reminder to self to never be like them.
On a lighter note, receive some very nice souvenirs from sis-in-law below. There are people in this universe who still loves me : )
Happy mum's day 2018
[Wake up every morning & tell yourself, 'I can do this!']
The month of May - June is always a very cramp month for me. Fortunately or unfortunately, all 4 celebrations for my parents fall within this span of this one month. Mother's day, Father's day, my dad's birthday and my mum's birthday. To make things worse (or better), my birthday as well. Well, this year, I got my mum a pair of Pearl ear rings. And I'm pretty sure she loves it.
Woke up really early the past Saturday to queue for the limited edition G-shock watch. Can't remember when was the last time I woke up to catch the first train. Anyway, long story short I reached the shop just in time to see everyone who was there 'fighting' to form the queue. Decided it was not worth it, went to have a good breakfast instead. Better luck next time...
3rd year into Grassroot
"When you see things that you like, buy it. You are not spending money, but exchanging it for something you like to keep by your side." - excuse to shop more...
Weekends always pass by extremely quickly. This weekend, I went for 2 basketball workouts, lunch with ex-colleagues, celebrated my nephew's birthday and spend the balance clearing my work. In a blink of an eye, Monday is here. Sometimes, I really wonder why do we even work so hard...
I entered the Grassroot volunteer community slightly more than 2 years ago as I really want to devote a portion of my time to help those in need. My determination has not change since then, although 'helping those in need' in the Grassroot may sometimes be different from what I had originally imagined. Anyway, I have now just entered into my 2nd term (3rd year) of my volunteer in the Grassroot community, and I was suddenly told that I am appointed the Assistant Secretary position. This came as a huge surprise as I have never thought I would ever be given any key appointments, have never expressed any intention to achieve anything and does not know what does this even mean to me. Grassroot is an avenue for me to reach out to help the needy. I did not want anything more out other than this. In any case, priority for me now is to at least be clear of what I am expected of this position first, and not to screw up.
First PG gundam
Bought this Perfect Grade Gundam Exia (lighting) model kit for Xmas in 2017. This has been shifted back in my priorities in life so many times since and today, I finally completed it. Estimated that it took about 16 hours (Spread across 4 months). 9 hours just to get the skeletons up! It was alot of work, but the end result is BEAUTIFUL!
Hello Nephew
"Don't close the book when bad things happen in your life, just turn the page and begin a new chapter."
Today, I paid a visit to by cousin-in-laws, who just gave birth to a baby girl 3 days ago. Always a joyous occasion when a new born baby arrives in the family.
"1/60 Perfect Grade Gundam Exia (Lighting Model)". For SGD390, this is the most expensive Gundam model kit I've bought till date. I bought this model kit since early February this year, but never really set this as a priority to start building. I'm determined to start this TONIGHT!
Ok, I surrendered...
"Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing, than a long life in a miserable way." - Alan Watts
Hard disk storage has always been a huge nightmare for me. Especial after I started Youtubing last year. After buying 6 portable harddisk, subscribing to Dropbox Professional, and subscribing to iCloud 2TB storages, I still find storage to be insufficient. I finally give up and turn to NAS solutions. Invested in a 4 bay DS918+ Synology storage, with 2x 8TB hard disk for a start. Total damage: SGD 1,375!!! Currently, I have used about 3.7 TB (54%). With another 2 bays for expansion, I am expecting this solution to finally (and hopefully) last a really long time.
After I complete the file transfer, gonna think of how to make use of these
20k views + Farewell dinner
On 21st Nov last year, I blogged about me reaching 10,000 views on my youtube channel. Now, after another 3 months 27 days, I passed 20,000 views! It seems like there has been an increase in my viewership. Not sure if this has anything to do with removing my monetization on my videos. I do have plans to create 2 more projects but looking at my present workload, I can't see myself prioritizing this for the time being.
Had a nice farewell dinner tonight to celebrate the resignation of 2 special person who tendered on the same day. Their workplace is close to where I work and are my occasional lunch buddies. Gonna miss lunching with the gang.
12D Macau + Hong Kong trip
This trip was mainly for work and it was supposed to be so secretive that we were instructed not to disclose on social media that we were going on this event and not to even wear clothing that has the company's logo on it.
Not my first time to Macau and Hong Kong, but the previous times have been so short that I hardly have much memory of both places. 4 days was for work, and I extended my stay on my own account. Including both weekends, there were additional 8 days and it was sufficient for me to explore both Macau and Hong Kong. At the end of my trip, I have to say that Macau was a good experience, and I love Hong Kong alot. So much that I hope to have the chance to be there again soon. Places of interest were interesting, food was nice, shopping was good and the night street market was really very fun. Almost every single night, it was 12mn by the time I went back to my hotel.
